The Budapest Stock Exchange Ltd. is the key actor on the Hungarian stock market, being the official trading platform for publicly emitted securities. It is essential to the financial services structure, because it represents an alternative financing source to commercial banks for the organisations. In addition, the scope of investment opportunities is thus broadened for both domestic and foreign investors, regardless of whether they are private or institutional. The current strategy of the BSE, approved in 2002, is based on playing an active role in the capital markets. The strategy focuses on the following topics: 1. Strengthening domestic investors' involvement in the markets; 2. Widening the product range by attracting new issuers; 3. Seeking and establishing international co-operations; 4. The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH, Gazdasági Versenyhivatal) is a public, budgetary institution of national competence which is responsible for the supervision of competition as defined in the Competition Act and in the Act on Business Advertising Activity. However, certain matters of the competition supervision such as the injury of reputation and business secrets, boycott and imitation are in the competence of the courts. In cases affecting the trade between Member States of the EU, the GVH applies the competition rules of the Community. The GVH gives expert advice and proposals relating to the governmental competition policy and the decisions of the government affecting competition and represents public interest. It supports the development of competition culture in Hungary.
