In 1904, a singing and social club, who were part of the Hungarian freight and machine factory, founded a club interested in “kick ball” called (Egyetértés Torna Osztály), meaning Understanding of sports department, which made up the name of “ETO.” The footballers, however, over 70 years ago, in 1937 took part in the Hungarian first division, NB1, for the first time. Following the Second World War, Vasas Eto quickly developed and its football team in 1960 were among the top positioned clubs. Since that time, they have played for 40 unbroken years in the top flight. Their first noticeable achievement was in 1963, when they won the half season cup, before the winter break. Further success followed when ETO reached the last 4 of the European Champions Cup and only a defeat, against Benfica, saw them fall out of the competition. The development of ETO’s youth teams has always been recognised, mainly that the side should have a backbone of homebred players. The capability and success of the youth system has been proven abroad. ETO’s youth policy now boasts daily training for more than 400 youngsters between the ages of 6-18. Today, a total of 18 teams achieve outstanding results in national and international tournaments. Gyori Eto Fc, next to the redevelopment of their stadium, designed a specially built college, according to international standards, housing room for 100 beds, under the name of “Miklos Feher football college.” This institution is unique within the region and has full time teachers and coaches with dieticians, sport physiologists and doctors.
