Kalman Magyar - Violinist & Folk Musician

Kalman Magyar was born in New Jersey in 1973 to Hungarian immigrant parents. At the age of five, Kalman was introduced to the violin through the Suzuki Method, and went on to study for a decade with Stanley Bednar at the Manhattan School of Music’s Preparatory Division, where he also studied piano and viola, in addition to his intensive work in jazz, composition and theory. He rose to become the School’s principal violist until his graduation in 1991. Parallel with his rigorous classical and jazz training, Kalman studied at folk music camps and seminars throughout the United States and Hungary. In 1987, together with his sister Ildiko and fellow Hungária Folkdance Ensemble member Attila Papp, he founded the Eletfa Hungarian Folk Music Band, which still exists today and is one of the United States’ treasured assets of world music.

San Diego House of Hungary - California

The House of Hungary is a member of the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages and one of the 28 international cottages in Balboa Park, San Diego. The houses were built during the 1936 San Diego Exposition for the different ethnic groups to show their traditions, customs, and history. The project was so successful that the City of San Diego decided to donate them permanently to the ethnic groups in order to keep them open for the public. The cottage is open to the public every Sunday afternoon, with a hostess offering homemade pastries, coffee and other refreshments to the visitors. The language school is conducted by professional Hungarian-born teachers and is open to all interested individuals.

Hungarian Meat Market - New York & Connecticut

Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians

The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (in Hungarian "Vajdasági Magyar Szövetség" or abbreviated as "VMSZ") was founded in 1994 as an association of citizens independent from political parties and governments. However, within a year it transformed into a political party. The Alliance is the strongest Hungarian minority party in the Republic of Serbia. Regarding its organization, the members form local organizations that are associated into regional organizations. The highest decision-making body of the Alliance is the General Assembly that has at least one meeting a year and elections every four years. The Assembly elects the Council consisting of 45 members by ballots. The Council is the highest body of the Alliance between two Assemblies. The executive body of the Alliance is the Presidency, and the Council by the majority of votes elects all of the 17 members of it. The Presidency is lead by the President, the executive vice-president and the four vice-presidents. The Central Office of the Alliance is in Szabadka - Subotica that is led by the Head of the Office elected by the Presidency.

The general public knows but little about the Hungarian community living in Transcarpathia, Ukraine. For instance, the overall minority survey of the Minority Rights Group has a section about Ukraine in which there is only a short reference to the fact that Hungarians live in Ukraine at all. There were some English language surveys published about it before, but these, because of their character, could not deal with all those factors in detail which, in our opinion, are important in relation to Transcarpathian Hungarians. Such a question is, for instance, the relation between the Ukrainian state language and Transcarpathian Hungarians about which the international general public has been able to read almost nothing as yet.
