The Office of Immigration and Nationality (OIN) with a national competence is responsible for: In accordance with the provisions of law on nationality discharging all the duties related to nationality falling in the line of duty of the Minister of the Justice and Law Enforcement; The tasks related to the home registration activity; Carrying out all the aliens policing tasks in the capacity of a central aliens policing authority; Executing all the tasks related to the administration of refugees in the capacity of a refugee authority. Additionally the Office is responsible for: Executing tasks related to migration arising from international conventions; Co-operating with international organisations, Hungarian governmental and non-governmental organisations; Managing and operating the reception centres, temporary accommodations and community shelters.

IOM Regional Office in Budapest: The International Organization for Migration is the principal intergovernmental organization in the field of migration. The organization is rapidly growing and currently counts 120 member states and more than 20 observer states as well as an increasing number of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations with observer status from all regions of the world. IOM is present in Central and South-Eastern Europe since the beginning of the 1990s. Since then, IOM has extended its activities to all the countries in the region.
